The name “Hawk Tuah” gained widespread popularity thanks to Hailey Welch. It was, on June 11 when she made waves on the internet during an interview with content creators Tim & Dee TV. In the video Welch answered a series of questions about her intimate positions and what she does in bed that excites men. Her response was straightforward yet unforgettable; “You got to give them that ‘hawk tuah’ and spit on that thing.”
Since then, the video has been widely shared, sparking reactions from known personalities, like Joe Rogan, Howard Stern and Bryce Harper. While many have joined in to create Hawk Tuah themed products one brand has received Welch’s endorsement; Fathead Threads.
Fathead Threads: A Family-Owned Business in the Spotlight
Fathead Threads is a family run business located in Marshall County, Tennessee. Jason Poteete, who is, from the area and has known Welch for a time is in charge of the business. When he saw the video gaining popularity online, he decided to reach out to Welch to help her make some money from her fame.
According to Poteete Welch hasn’t received any payment from the video yet. He mentioned that nobody sought permission from her either. His main intention was for Welch to benefit financially from this situation.
Although Poteete didn’t disclose details he did recommend that Welch trademark the phrase. She has taken steps by consulting a lawyer and securing representation through an agent. However, rumors about a deal with UTA, an entity, in Hollywood were not accurate.
Managing the Fame
Welch, feeling a bit taken aback by all the spotlight has politely asked for some privacy. Expressed her wish not to have her face appear on any products. Poteete mentioned, “There are some folks out who have been a bit too enthusiastic, in reaching out to her.” He added, “Shes become quite famous globally now. It’s hard to say if shes fully come to terms with it.”
The Merch: Hawk Tuah ’24 Hats
Fathead Threads is currently offering “Hawk Tuah ’24” caps, in 14 colors priced at $32.78 each. They also had a signed version with a leather patch costing $50. Its already sold out. The phrase has attracted attention from media outlets to the WWE showing its appeal.
Poteete estimates that the store has sold than 2,000 caps to date. With the priced cap being $32.78 this translates to least $65,000 in total revenue. Poteete mentions, “Our usual big orders consist of around 100 caps or 150 250 shirts. This is, beyond our sales volume ” he adds. “As a family owned business we’re all pitching in at capacity right now.”
